Getting Started with Elemental
Welcome to Elemental! In this tutorial, you'll learn how to scan your first product and understand what the results mean. Within seconds, you'll know exactly what's in your products and whether they're safe for you and your family.
Step 1: Open the Scanner
Launch the Elemental app and tap the large scan button on the home screen. You'll see your camera viewfinder with a scanning frame in the center.
Pro tip: Make sure you've granted camera permissions when prompted. If you accidentally denied access, you can enable it in your device settings.
Step 2: Align the Barcode
Position your camera so the product's barcode fits within the scanning frame. Elemental works with:
- Standard UPC barcodes (most common)
- QR codes
- EAN codes (international products)
Hold your phone steady for 1-2 seconds. The app will automatically detect and scan the barcode—no need to press a button!
Step 3: Review the Health Score
Within seconds, you'll see the product's health score displayed with a color-coded rating:
- Green: Safe to use with minimal contaminant concerns
- Amber: Use with caution—some contaminants detected
- Red: Avoid—exceeds safety limits for key contaminants
Step 4: Explore Detailed Information
Scroll down to see:
- Top contaminants and their levels
- Detailed lab report data (Core & Pro plans)
- Similar products with better ratings
- Community reviews and testing requests
Step 5: Save to Your Pantry
Found a safe product you love? Tap the heart icon to save it to your Personal Pantry. You'll automatically receive alerts if:
- The product is recalled
- New test results change the safety score
- Better alternatives become available
